Welcome to the Home of Wrestling Minimize

Wrestling is one of the world's oldest sports.

Homer's "The  Iliad" features a match between the wily Odeysseus (Ulysses) and  the giant Aias (Ajax). It is well documented that wrestling was a favourite among North American Aboriginal people.

Canada is a powerhouse nation in International wrestling. Daniel Igali's Gold Medal in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, Carol Huynh's Gold Medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Tanya Verbeek's Silver Medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics and Bronze in 2008, indicate Canada's rising strength in both mens and womens wrestling.

Wrestling in Williams Lake was started in 1975/76 at Anne Stevenson Jr. Secondary and then spread to Williams Lake Jr. Secondary in 1977/78.

Elementary School wrestling started at both Chimney Creek Elementary and Mcleese Lake Elementary in 1979/80. The program has spread to 100 Mile House and the Chilcotin as well as the formation of the Williams Lake Wrestling Club in 1996.

There has been Elementary School  Wrestling in Williams Lake for over 28 years.
